In order to bring together Wikipedians working on the local language Wikipedias in Ghana, a small conference on Ghanaian Wikimedia languages has started in Tamale.

The purpose of the event was to increase participants' sense of community and self-assurance in their ability to digitize their languages in order to save them from extinction.

Around 60 Wikimedians from nine communities that speak Ghanaian languages, including the Kusaal, Ewe, Dagare, Twi, Dagbani, Ghanaian Pidgin, Gurune, Fante, and Moore Wikimedia communities, will also contribute to bridging the language barrier-related digital gap.

The two-day conference would provide attendees from the many communities around the nation with the chance to strategize on how to better separate language platforms and learn from others what has worked and what has not.

The Dagbani Wikimedians User Group's founder, Sadik Shahadu, urged attendees to work together and lend one another a helping hand because they came from various backgrounds.

Sadik remarked, "Let's embrace the reality that everyone of us is unique, regardless of the language you speak.

Sadik emphasized that while each community has unique abilities and knowledge, working together would enable them to share knowledge in a variety of areas, including volunteer retention, leadership development, and community development.

While each community has unique talents and knowledge, Sadik emphasized that working together will enable them to share knowledge in a variety of areas, including community growth, volunteer retention, and leadership development.

"Also to recruit new volunteers, meet-ups provide avenues for creating awareness about the existence of Wikimedia volunteers, which attracts the general public, hence leading to the recruitment of more volunteers."

The Ghanaian Wikimedia Languages meetup is the first of its kind and was created to bring together Wikipedians in Ghana who are working on the Wikipedias in the country's indigenous languages.
