A 10-seater Kumasi Ventilated Improved Pit (KVIP) toilet has been delivered by the Ghana Rubber Estate (GREL) to Komanfokrom, one of its host villages in the Ahanta West Municipality in the Western Region.
The 284,000-rupee facility was crucial for the neighborhood, especially during the rainy seasons, and to prevent residents and kids from using the improvised latrine, which had become a safety hazard.

The facility will assist in attaining SDG 6, which aims to stop open defecation and provide all people with access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene by 2030.
Community members had asked the corporation for the facility, according to GREL's Corporate Affairs Manager, Mr. Perry Acheampong.
The facility, a vented enhanced pit latrine with a black pipe vent affixed to the pit and a fly screen at the top exit of the pipe, had been approved as a safe location for the neighborhood, according to the man.
He emphasized that GREL was devoted to good neighborliness between the firm and the hosts and thanked the Komanfokrom chiefs, elders, and populace for their tranquil cohabitation with GREL.

He explained that the presentation was just one of many social investment programs the business had carried out throughout its operational areas and that it was important to commend the Komanfokrom residents for their patience, adding that "we urged other communities to emulate the good example of Komanfokrom as they work together as a team."
In order to increase interactions between GREL and its host communities, Mr. Acheampong asked the community to own, assist in administering, and maintain the facility.

According to him, the more advanced KVIP would take the place of the community's deteriorating improvised system, which posed a serious risk to users, particularly the younger ones.
