France has promised to send dozens of additional light tanks and armored vehicles to Ukraine and provide the country's soldiers with the necessary training for their effective use.
The announcement came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy flew to France late  Sunday to join French President Emmanuel Macron for a working dinner at the Elysee Palace in Paris.  In the coming weeks, France will train several battalions and equip them with dozens of armored and light tanks, including  the AMX-10RC," the leaders said in a joint statement on Monday after about three hours of talks.
Paris is also focusing its efforts on "supporting Ukraine's air defense capability to protect its population against Russian attacks." Ukraine and France agree on the need to increase collective pressure on Russia through new sanctions to weaken Russia's ability to continue an illegal war of aggression.
The Paris visit  was part of Zelensky's weekend trip with several key European allies to seek military and financial support ahead of an expected major Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russian forces.  After securing a new $3 billion military package from Germany, Zelenskyy said in Berlin on Sunday that Kiev and its allies could make Russia's defeat "irreversible" as early as this year.  Macron confirmed in Paris that France will continue to provide Ukraine with political, economic, humanitarian and military support  as long as it is needed, the statement said.

French AMX-10RC vehicles have high speed and maneuverability, which allows them to quickly move and change positions on the battlefield. Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov called them "sniper guns...on fast wheels."
