A cooperation between the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) and the Czech Republic has allowed 106 patients to get free operations and medical care.
The partnership is part of the Czech Republic's MEDEVAC medical humanitarian project, which works with institutions to provide high-quality, specialist healthcare services for the underprivileged.
A total of 642 people with various medical issues were screened; 106 complicated procedures were carried out, and other people received therapy.
In order to provide difficult plastic and orthopaedic surgery for free to residents of the region and beyond who would otherwise be unable to pay the expense of such procedures, the Czech Republic's MEDEVAC and CCTH formed a collaboration in 2020.
Dr. Eric Ngyedu, the chief executive officer of the CCTH, told Vit Rakusan, the first deputy prime minister of the Czech Republic, during a visit to the facility last Monday that Ghana and the Czech Republic had a long-standing, mutually beneficial relationship that dated back to the time before Ghana gained independence.
He said that the cooperation with MEDEVAC in 2020 has thus far focused on their joint initiatives to provide patients who couldn't afford them with orthopaedic and plastic reconstructive operations for free.

Dr. Ngyedu said that the hospital has so far received installments from MEDEVAC totaling US$25,927.00 and GH479,556.00 as its contribution towards the cost of implants, transplants, and procedures for patients without insurance, as well as additional services that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) does not pay for.
The citizens of the Czech Republic and the visiting team, which included surgeons, were assured of the hospital's ongoing commitment to the plan for the two countries' mutual benefit.
Call for assistance
While praising the Ghanaian government for some recent capital-intensive projects and equipment provided to the hospital, Dr. Ngyedu noted that the hospital faced some difficulties with equipment, such as the C-Arm, an advanced medical imaging device, diathermy machines, and others, and he appealed for assistance from well-meaning organizations.
According to him, the hospital's board and administration will keep making strenuous efforts to close such gaps in order to keep the relationship viable.
