Avoid involvement in the workof unauthorized development professionals - GNFS 


The Ghana Fire Service (GNFS)has urged property developers to avoid involvement in the work of unlicensed developersto avoid loss of life and property. 

press release signed by the Deputy Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Timothy Osafo Affum, the GNFS Public Relations Officer and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the breakdown in the system is mainly caused by structures and weak foundations.

Lack of improvement, reduced computing power,
 failure to perform energy tests, poor maintenance and use of refurbished building materials, among others, put lives and property at risk. 

He
 said eight different housecollapses were recorded in three regions in the last four months, killing two people and injuring 62 others. Greater Accra region recorded six such falls while Ashanti and Northern regions recorded onecase each.

GNFS
 called on the Engineering Council and stakeholders to conduct an investigation and find recommendations that have been put in place to help stop the collapse of the system. He said that developers should follow the proper process of obtaining building or construction permits for their projects.

 said that those in chargeshould work together with all the members of theMetropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to enforce all building laws to destroy the blame ofdevelopers who violate building laws and building regulations.
