Gary Neville thinks Fenway Sports Group must spend "serious money" and support Jurgen Klopp in the transfer market to put Liverpool back in the running for domestic and European championships.
Liverpool is currently outside the top four after a challenging season, which Klopp himself said was a bit of a "crisis" to get through. On Monday night, they will play Leicester.
Because it would cost more than £100 million to acquire England and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, the Reds recently abandoned their chase of him.
Neville, though, is pleading with FSG to dig deep into their riches and support Klopp in order to turn this team around as a rebuild, particularly in midfield, is on the horizon.
He stated on The Gary Neville podcast that "Jurgen Klopp has got to be supported." He was helped by their ability to push themselves in the transfer market when they fell short; this summer, they'll need to do the same.
Other teams will invest, but Klopp's strength over the past six or seven years has been the calibre of his football as well as his ability to attract players. With the exception of Van Dijk, Allison, and Nunez, he has been able to get the best out of players who, in the end, haven't cost ridiculous sums of money.
You should have a look at those £20 million and £30 million signings, including Robertson at left-back, Jota, Salah, and Mane, among others. They have excelled for Liverpool.
They will need to do some of that, but they should also, in my opinion, spend a significant amount of money to sign one or two quality players for Klopp.
Liverpool has been the team challenging Manchester City for the Premier League championship up until this point, and they haven't missed the Champions League since 2016–17, reaching three finals along the road.
But Klopp is making adjustments after a season in which they have only won 18 of their 35 games thus far.
Neville doesn't think Klopp will be'reckless' with his money this summer, but he is well aware of the price of the kinds of players the manager will need to lift this team to the level of being a contender once more.
