New information emerging suggests that the Nigerian police have made an official bid to detain afrobeat Singer Seun Kuti for 21 days over the assault of a police officer. According to sources, the said police officer assaulted by Seun Kuti is currently in Coma at an undisclosed hospital. Seun Kuti was said to have handed himself over to the police in the early hours of Monday, the 15th of May after a video of him assaulting an officer of the law went viral.
Before his arrest, Seun Kuti took to his official Instagram story and revealed that people should stop spreading the video online because the police in question tried killing him and his family hence his decision to attack him, his manager also added that the police were drunk and hit the trunk of the car Kiti was driving along with his family and that incident got his little daughter who was seated in the back seat traumatized.
“He tried to kill me and my family.
have the proof but I no dey chase
clout. He has apologized and I have
agreed not to press charges. Make
una mind una business make the poor
guy no lose his job”. Seun’s Instagram post on the incident.
“On the said day, Seun was driving with his family on the third mainland bridge, when he was suddenly h#t from behind, by a police truck being driven by an officer who was reportedly drĄnk.
This act from the officer led Seun’s daughter into a sudden sh%ck, as she was visibly shaken by the h#t. So, this made Seun pursue the truck, double-crossed it, and forced it to a stop.
When the police officer got down from the truck, instead of apologizing, he was arguing with Seun, which provoked him to sl@p the officer.
People should realize that men in uniforms also provoke civilians. Immunity is no excuse for impunity.” said the manager for Seun Kuti Ayo Moses.
In all this, current news concerning the matter is that Seun was charged in court and the Nigerian police are pleading with the court to detain Seun Kuti for 21 days, claiming the assaulted officer is currently in a coma at an undisclosed hospital.
