Hurry up with your pledge -Political Communication Expert in Mahama
Lecturer in Political Communication at UniMAC-GIJ, Dr. Paul Ezuah is urging the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),John Mahama, to hurry up on his promises in the coming 2024 elections.
The former president, in his victory speech on Monday, reiterated several promises he says he wants Ghanaians to fulfill if they vote for him to be president in 2025. Mr. Mahama, among others, has promised to lead the softest but most effective government under the Fourth Nation by appointing 60 ministers and vice presidents.Work to cancel the firstpayment and reduce the costand defamation in the government. He also promised to give the state's anti-corruption agency anunfettered opportunity to operate - the era of the anti-corruption agency will end on 07 January 2025.
Speaking to Starr News, Dr Paul Ezuah said that although it is to be expected during the political season, John Mahama should be slow given the recent history of broken promises damage. “Looking at the way he talkedabout all this, it's good. But let us bear in mind that we are in Ghana where, in the past, promises were made everywhere but only a few were implemented. So, for me, I advise him to hurry up with those promises because we have the benefit of hindsight and we know what happened before even in the NDC and the NPP.
"Ghanaian voters don't likepromises, they want the jobdone so they can see that the right thing is done. So on one hand I would say that is good but it should break those promises a little bit because if he doesn't, it will be disastrous in terms of the 2024 elections,” said Dr Paul. Ezua added.
