'I'm interested but…' - Attorney General explains the silence in the story of Professor Frimpong Boateng

Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has explained why he stopped considering areport on Galamsey by former environment minister ProfKwabena Frimpong-Boateng.

According to him, despite his interest in investigating the report, as a precaution, he thought it was better for independent people to investigate it. “I'm interested, but of course some clubs have been invited. I understand CHRAJ is seeing it, OSP is seeing it. If now, as the Attorney General, I were to review the report, what would you think? I am sure he will expose himselfto all kinds of suspicion," he said in an exclusive interview with Kojo Yankson. "I really thought, could look at the report and analyze it, and if I did, the same media would say 'it's just a government attorney.' Yes, let the free people look at it," saidMr Dame in an exclusive interview broadcast on Joy FM on Tuesday.

However, the
Attorney Generalassured Ghanaians that although he is not currentlyinvolved in the investigation ofwhat he called Professor Frimpong-Boateng's opinion, the necessary procedures for the investigation are being followed. He also revealed that the police also called Professor Frimpong-Boateng for questioning.

After that, Mr.
Dame explained that there is no need for him to be involved in the investigationbecause the file will be collected from the professor's charges and will be transferred to his office by the police. . Headded that at a later date, his team would investigatewhether Professor Frimpong-Boateng's report would qualifyfor prosecution.

"So, of course, I haven't left
the process, I'm part of it. Only due process will be followed,” he reiterated.

Mr Dame advised the media not to take the news as sacred until it is legally confirmed. "But the warning and warning that I would like to give you, the media, is that they do not raise the bar and do not support the story until it passes the test approved by law."

On April 20, a leaked report compiled by Professor Frimpong-Boateng asked the former minister to name some government officials as being involved in the illegal terror threat.

In the report, the renowned heart surgeon said the sale is going to the seat of government, Jubilee House. Professor Frimpong-Boateng pointed out that the statementof about 500 missing miners arrested from illegal miners in 2020 is a lie concocted by some government officials to dismisshim at work. After this report, the Ghanaians called for the State Security Service to look into this report.

Later,
President Akufo-Addo asked the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter.
