Liverpool ruthlessly beat Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium on Monday night in a result that leaves the Foxes staring down the barrel of relegation from the Premier League while the Reds keep their Champions League hopes alive..
A quickfire double from Curtis Jones set Liverpool on their way and Trent Alexander-Arnold finished the job with a great strike in the second half.
Despite the fact that Leciester started the game in a fairly encouraging fashion, limiting Liverpool to nothing in the way of clear cut chances, things soon unravelled for the Foxes.
A well-worked goal from Jurgen Klopp's side was put put away by Curtis Jones at the far post and Leicester responded terribly to the goal. Just three minutes after the opening strike, Jones was found in a small amount of space on the edge of the box and he produced a superb turn and finish to put Liverpool in full control.
Things should have been even worse just a minute later as almost immediately from the kick-off, Cody Gakpo found himself through on goal but his low shot was straight at Daniel Iversen. Dean Smith's side were lucky to reach half-time with the score at 2-0 and they were loudly booed by their own fans as the whistle went.
The second half was played at a fairly slow tempo by both sides with Leicester having no belief they could get back into the game and Liverpool not needing to stretch themselves. Some gloss was added for Liverpool with 20 minutes to play though as Trent Alexander Arnold hit a superb free-kick into the top corner.
The defeat leaves Leicester down in 19th in the Premier League table with just two games to try and save themselves. Leeds are one point ahead, and Everton are the first safe team with two points more than Leicester. The game is not up for Leciester, but they are firmly relying on favours from elsewhere at this stage.
Liverpool are also looking upwards and chasing teams ahead of them, but their aim is to reel in one of Manchester United and Newcastle who occupy third and fourth. They are a point ahead of Liverpool but both sides have a game in hand.
