Chelsea and Tottenham both require a new goalkeeper in the next summer transfer window, and both teams appear to have been presented with a straightforward answer.

The Champions League semifinal between Inter and AC Milan would have undoubtedly been entertaining to watch, yet Tottenham and Chelsea are also looking for new goalkeepers. Inter led going into the second leg after winning the first match 2-0, with Lautaro Martinez's goal in the second half ensuring Inter's place in the championship game.

While both England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Dean Henderson have admirers in north London, the former's significant injury and Pickford's recent signing of a new deal make it unlikely that either will join Spurs - but Everton's relegation from the Premier League could change that.

The most intriguing figure on that suggested list is Maignan, a Frenchman who put on an outstanding performance in the Champions League on Tuesday night. In the first half, he made a deft save to deny Nicolo Barella before making an amazing reaction save to block an errant Edin Dzeko header that would have ended the game.

Although Martinez's effort snuck in at his near post, Maignan was probably irritated by it because of its strength and how hard it was to save.

The Blues had proposed a swap deal to Inter that would have included Spanish goalkeeper Kepa, but the Nerazzurri rejected the proposal and set their asking price at £45 million, with the 27-year-old also turning in a strong performance on the greatest stage.

The two Milan clubs' success in the Champions League thus far is evidence of the demand for a top-notch goalie. The acquisition of Allison by Liverpool and Ederson by Manchester City led to both teams winning numerous prestigious awards; if Maignan and Onana, respectively, are bought, the similar effect might be seen at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Stamford Bridge.

In light of the Lionel Messi-Barcelona issue, Chelsea sent a clear Frenkie de Jong transfer message.
