According to former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov, Harry Kane would not want to take the chance of ruining his legacy at the club by departing in the summer.
England's captain Kane has been extensively linked with a high-paying move to Manchester United following another tumultuous season at Tottenham that will end without a trophy.
Before moving from White Hart Lane to Old Trafford just over six months later, Berbatov assisted Spurs in winning the League Cup in February 2008, which is still the team's final trophy.
Kane will enter the final year of his contract with Spurs in the summer, although he recently expressed his desire to rebuild a solid culture at the team, which is now under the leadership of its third manager this year.
Although Berbatov, who later won two Premier League titles with Manchester United, can understand Kane's predicament, he thinks the 29-year-old's heart will always be at Tottenham, where he now holds the record for goals scored.
"I can relate to and understand his circumstance. I feel bad for him, but I also believe he will continue with the Spurs, Berbatov told the PA news agency.
"They are connected forever because he is the leading goalscorer of the team, of the country (England national team), and probably is going to break Alan Shearer's record for most goals in the Premier League as well," said Kane. "His legacy now is so great that he cannot force himself to tarnish it.Therefore, it is up to him to understand what is crucial for him and (for) his legacy with the Spurs, which is unbelievable at this point.
In terms of) personal records, it's necessary to achieve anything before he retires from football. He must make that decision.
Speaking on behalf of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, former Bulgarian striker Berbatov added: "At some point, Spurs are probably going to win something and produce more steadily."Every season, they make the claim that it will be the one that defines the series, but thus far, it hasn't worked. "At some point, I'm sure it will, but when will that be? I'm not sure.
