In the Western and Greater Accra areas, 69 students from seven host communities of the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) have been given scholarships to continue their academic studies.
Over the following three years, the beneficiaries' pupils will pursue a variety of courses in 13 tertiary institutions around the nation, including those in law, engineering, medical, petroleum, electrical, construction engineering, and other fields.

The award, which is from the ninth batch, is a component of the company's livelihood assistance initiative, which comprises two schemes: a scholarship program and a skills development program.
According to the business, it has already given out roughly $921,000 as part of the program to guarantee that the children in its host communities have an equitable opportunity to grow and reach their potential in order to give back to their communities in a significant way.
49 pupils in the Shama District received the prize, and 20 more recipients in Greater Accra would receive it later. The total cost of the award was GH641,700 for the 2022–23 academic year.
Impacts
Dr. Isaac Adjei Doku, General Manager of Corporate Affairs for WAPCo, stated during a ceremony in Shama that the firm was still dedicated to changing the lives of the local youngsters one batch at a time.
He said, "WAPCo's engagement with youth also ensures that our host communities have the necessary abilities for their growth and development.
He claimed that since the program's launch, the firm has helped more than 500 students and that a large number of recipients have successfully finished their academic studies.

"When managing our livelihood program, we always make sure that the selection process for these awards reflects our core values, which include diversity and inclusion," he stated.
The WAPCo-sponsored students, according to Dr. Doku, have taken more than 20 different courses during this time, indicating the variety of interests and pool of employable abilities and skills being cultivated in these communities.
"We are happy to say that the courses pursued covered areas such as doctor of optometry, medicine and surgery, nautical science, petroleum, engineering, actuarial science, law, and environmental and safety engineering, among others," he added.
Successes
He claimed that from the program's inception, it has had a 100% completion record, "as all previous WAPCo scholarship recipients, with the exception of those still in school, have successfully completed their programs and graduated."
Mr. Ebenezer Dadzie, the district chief executive of the Shama District Assembly, praised WAPCo for its ongoing dedication to the development of human resources for the benefit of the nation's growth through its programs.
