Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford, was given an eight-month suspension after acknowledging breaking the betting laws.

Toney was accused with 262 alleged violations over a four-year period by the Football Association in November.

The 27-year-old, who finally made his long-awaited England debut in March, pleaded guilty to 232 of the offences; 30 of those were later dropped.

An impartial regulatory commission imposed Toney's sanctions, which included a ÂŁ50,000 fine, following a personal hearing.

He cannot play until January 17, 2024, although he can begin training with Brentford on September 17.

Toney expressed his dissatisfaction with the result in a statement.

The Brentford striker announced his eight-month suspension from football on Twitter. "Today I have received notification of my eight-month ban from football following a hearing before an FA regulatory commission that took place yesterday," he said.

Naturally, I'm sorry that I won't be able to play for the upcoming eight months.Since the detailed justifications for the commission's decision have not yet been made public, I will stop here and just express my gratitude to my loved ones, Brentford FC, and our supporters for their unwavering support during this extremely trying period.

I am now concentrating on coming back to play the game I love next season.

The FA and Brentford will both evaluate the written justifications for the independent regulatory commission's decision, which will be published "in due course."

According to a statement from the FA, "Ivan Toney has been suspended from all football and football-related activity with immediate effect for eight months, beginning on January 16 and continuing through that date, fined ÂŁ50,000, and warned as to his future behavior for breaches of the FA's betting rules."

The forward for Brentford FC was accused of breaking FA Rule E8 a total of 262 times between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. Later, the FA retracted 30 of these violations, and he acknowledged the remaining 232.
