Following a remarkable performance of strength, ability, and intelligence at a rocking Etihad Stadium, a match against Inter Milan is waiting for them on June 10 in Istanbul.
Manchester City, who are chasing a treble, were motivated to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final, according to Pep Guardiola, as they sought retribution for their semi-final heartbreak from the previous season.
Following a magnificent display of skill, strength, and intelligence against the defending champions on Wednesday at a rocking Etihad Stadium, a match against Inter Milan is now scheduled for June 10 in Istanbul.
Last week, City played Champions League winners Madrid to a 1-1 draw before winning 4-0 thanks to a brace from Bernardo Silva, an own goal from Eder Militao, and a goal from substitute Julian Alvarez.
The 5-1 victory overall was especially nice following City's 2021 final defeat to Chelsea and agonizing semi-final loss to Madrid the previous year.
Regarding that agonizing late 6-5 aggregate extra-time loss from the previous season, Guardiola remarked, "Listen, I had the feeling these last days that we had a mix of calm and tension to play this type of game."
"After 10 or 15 minutes, I began to feel as though the anguish we had been experiencing for a year as a result of what happened last season was still present today.
"Last season, when we played very similarly to how we do today, it was extremely difficult, and Toni Kroos said in an interview that they could have lost at the Etihad by a score of 10-1 or 10-2.
"Kroos is one of the best players I have ever trained with, and when he says that, it indicates that we were there and that it was very difficult for us to lose the way we did.
"At that very moment, we had to consume a lethal substance, but sports and football always give you a second opportunity.
"When Madrid was drawn, I responded, "Yes, I want it. I wanted it because I believe everything was in place today, including the vigor we had from a year of receiving criticism for our lack of character when we lost games because they involved football.
"Today it was there, and I'm happy for the entire organizationfor the chairman, owner, staff, and especially all the players because we accepted the loss and today we were there," said the player.
