Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a flag bearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has paid glowing homage to the late S. G. Antor, a founding member of the United Party (UP) tradition, calling his contribution to Ghana's political growth one that would go down in history.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto claims that the late Antor was a titan in the establishment of the UP tradition who worked with his late father, Baffour Osei Akoto, and other individuals to battle and free Ghana from the oppressor's tyranny.
He thus thinks it right to pay honor to the deceased hero, who was a political friend of his late father, as he attempts to carry the banner of the UP heritage.
The Secretary of the Togoland Congress was S. G. Antor.
I've known him for a long time.
I still have memories of him as a little child whenever he visited my father, Baffour Osei Akoto, in our home in Kumasi, and history has recognized his contribution to the political advancement of this nation.
I cannot simply go without paying my respects to him if I am passing where he is buried, he said.
Visit
Last Thursday, the former minister of food and agriculture made this observation while speaking with NPP members in the Volta Region, including former regional party chairmen, constituency executives, and some polling station executives, at Logba, in the Afadjato South Constituency, about his vision.
Later, he was joined by the local party leaders to lay a wreath in honor of the late S. G. Antor.
After paying tribute to the late S. G. Antor, Dr. Afriyie Akoto asked the party faithful to support him with their ballots so that he could become the elephant family's flagbearer since he stood tall and had the party's best interests at heart more than any of the other candidates.
"I am reminding you of the support I need from you because the party has set a date for all of you to elect the leader who will guide us into the future of this party on November 4th.
And because the NPP derives from the UP tradition and Dr. S. G. Antor is a close political ally of my father, Baffour Osei Akoto, I anticipate that you will support my bid for the flagbearership in the same way that you supported the National Liberation Movement, the Northern Peoples Party, the Trans Volta Togoland Party, and other parties that joined forces to form the United Party.
