Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy expressed doubts about Sadio Mane returning to Liverpool after an underwhelming spell at Bayern Munich. Last summer, Bayern had proposed a deal where Liverpool would earn an additional £6.5 million if Mane won the Ballon d'Or in each of his three seasons with the German club. However, Mane's form has declined, and he has struggled to replicate his outstanding performances at Anfield.

Mane, who was the runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d'Or, is now unlikely to even make the shortlist for the prestigious award. The Senegal international has scored just one goal since October, a stark contrast to his prolific performances in the past. Sky Germany reports that Bayern, who also faced off-field issues with teammate Leroy Sane, may consider parting ways with the 31-year-old, despite him being less than a year into his three-year contract.

Speculation arose about the possibility of Mane making an emotional return to Liverpool, but Murphy believes it is unlikely due to the club's budget constraints and the need to strengthen their midfield. Liverpool currently has a surplus of attacking options, making it difficult to accommodate Mane without offloading another player.

While Liverpool has experienced a somewhat challenging season, their goal-scoring prowess has not been a major concern. Only Arsenal and Manchester City have scored more goals than their tally of 70 in the Premier League. Mane's decline in form raises questions about whether his time at Bayern has been a misstep, similar to Timo Werner's struggles at Chelsea.

Bundesliga reporter Manuel Veth draws parallels between Mane's performance and Werner's woes, describing Mane as the reverse version of the Premier League striker. Veth points out Mane's mistimed runs and misplaced finishes, questioning what the future holds for the Senegalese forward, especially considering his age, as he will turn 32 next year.

As Mane's poor form continues, uncertainty surrounds his future at Bayern Munich, with doubts emerging about whether he can reclaim his previous level of performance.
