Akufo-Addo visited theGhanaian military on apeacekeeping mission 



President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), visited the Ghanaian Armed Forces on a peacekeeping mission.

The President of Guinea-BissauUmaro Mokhtar Sissoco Embalo was also with him. President Akufo-Addo visited the Ghana Company (GHANCOY 1), which is part of the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB). 

The visit took place on Monday, May 15, 2023, as part of the two-day working visit ofPresident Akufo-Addo to Guinea-Bissau, following theinvitation of President Embalo. The main purpose of the visit isfor the Chief of Staff to meet ESSMGB-GHANCOY 1 and personally assess the well-being of the soldiers and their effectiveness in fulfilling their duties since they were deployed to the operational area in June 2022. 

During the visit, several eventswere held including the guard of honour, the unveiling ofGHANCOY 1 and the mounting of a special 15-minute presidential guard in honor of President Akufo-Addo. ThePresident visited the camp, interacted with the Ghanaian military and presented the work done by GHANCOY.



Welcoming the leaders,Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) David Korsah, the commanding officer of the ESSMGB GHANCOY 1 Combat Team,expressed his gratitude on behalf of the entire Ghanaian military. Lt. Col. Korsah described the visit as historic and memorable for three reasons. First, he stressed that the visit showed that President Akufo-Addo is working hard for democratic governance in Africa as evidenced by his records. 

Second,
 he added that he expressed the confidence of the President in the leadership and staff of the GAF. Finally, he confirmed that it was the first time in about 28 years that the president of Ghana visited theGAF troops working abroad. 

Lieutenant Colonel
 Korsah assured President Akufo-Addo that he and his troops willcontinue to proudly represent Ghana, promote the beauty of the country and serve as worthy ambassadors.



President Akufo-Addo, on his part, commended the team for their discipline and hard work,assuring them of his support. At the end of his speech, the President gave gifts to the soldiers. 

The president also dedicated a new building and office building to the Chief of Defense Staff Seth Amoama "AMOAMA BLOCK" in honor of the Vice Admiral, who played an important role in raising funds for the project. Dignitaries onthe visit include Professor Hamidou Boly, Special Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission (SRPC), Brigadier General AM Grema, Commander of theESSMGB Force, and Colonel ATM Kore, Deputy Chief of Staff. 

The visit demonstratedPresident Akufo-Addo'ssupport for the military and its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
