AFTER THE NDC PRIMARIES, NPP IS EXPECTED TO GAIN SIX SEATS IN UPPER EAST, ACCORDING TO AYAMGA

According to Peter Ayimbisa Ayamga, the Upper East Regional Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party is prepared to wrest five more seats from the NDC based on the results of the NDC's primary elections.

He said that the four current Members of Parliament (MPs) who were defeated proved the party's long-held claim that all 14 NDC MPs, with the exception of Abdulai Abanga of the NPP, were inept and underperforming.

According to him, "the decision made by the delegates regarding the four NDC MPs vindicates the NPP's position that the MPs needed to be changed because their continued service in Parliament is a disservice to the constituents."

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr. Ayamga responded to the results of the NDC primaries in the area last Saturday.

The four defeated MPs are Thomas Dalu of Chiana-Paga, Sampson Tangombu Chiragia of Navrongo Central, Albert Akuka Alalzuuga of Garu, and Edward Abambire Bawa of Bongo.

As a party, we are not shocked that they lost, and we will work hard to grab more seats in addition to our one seat, he said, adding that the four MPs who lost, along with the others who were retained in the primary, had failed to live up to the expectations of the people.

Get six seats

He stated that the NPP was ready and would exert every effort to win at least five extra seats in addition to the Binduri seat in the 2024 elections as a result of the NDC appointing fresh candidates for some of the constituencies.

When asked about the NPP's goal of parliamentary seats, he said that the party may win the Navrongo Central, Bongo, Garu, Bolgatanga East, and Talensi constituencies with a successful grass-roots campaign.

He said that the NPP had previously gained some of the seats before the NDC took them back, adding that "since the NPP has won a number of seats in the region before, we are ready to go the extra mile to snatch more seats from the NDC in 2024".

According to him, "No parliamentary seat in the region is a bona fide property of the NDC, and since the elected NDC MPs have failed to deliver as there is nothing to show for their work, the NPP will work very hard to win additional parliamentary seats to serve the people better."

Choose electable candidates

In reference to the selection of parliamentary candidates, he stated that the party will make sure that individuals qualified for the desired seats are chosen in the next primary elections in order to advance the agenda.

"Obviously, the kind of candidates to be selected would be key to winning additional seats," he added, adding that the party needs to elect individuals who could wrest the seats from the NDC.
