"No one is Santa Claus in politics" - Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu sends a reminder to the people.
Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
Suame County Member of Parliament Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has warned Ghanaians to avoid the rising money systemin the country's politics.
As the leader of the majority in parliament, the practice, if it continues, will lead to a time when only the rich can enterparliament. "Everyone who lost is complaining that they don'thave money to compare to the money spent on our elections. If we don't change the tide, what will happen in our next two elections? But is it three votes? This means you cannot come to parliament if you are not paid. That is why I am asking the political parties to change the constitution," he said in an interview with Okay FM. Theleader of many people went on to warn that this situation encourages corruption and that citizens should reconsider their involvement in political investment.
"I say nobody in politics is Santa, so they will eventually get their money's worth. Once their team wins, they will make sure to use contracts and other means to destroy. No one is an angel in this country. On top ofthat, they will accumulate more money for the upcoming elections,” he said.
Parliamentarians and presidents of the National Democratic Congress party who have been suspended have registered allegations of vote buying. In Ejura Sekyere Odumase Constituency, thecandidate, Juliana Kinang-Wassan, filmed herselfthrowing money from her rooftop at the polling station.
