Moises Caicedo responds to tweet expressing Arsenal regret - "If I could turn back time"

Moises Caicedo, a transfer target for Arsenal, faced criticism on social media following his involvement in the team's disappointing 3-0 loss to Brighton at the Emirates Stadium. Caicedo has now responded to the backlash, expressing regret over a tackle that left Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli injured during the match.

The Ecuadorian midfielder made a strong challenge on the Brazilian forward, causing him to require medical attention and eventually be substituted. Martinelli was later seen wearing a protective boot, raising concerns about the extent of his injury. The incident involving Caicedo occurred after Martinelli had previously clashed with Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma during an aerial challenge.

A Twitter user commented on the incident, suggesting that Martinelli had received "karma" for his earlier action against Mitoma. Caicedo swiftly replied, acknowledging his regret for the tackle and stating that he would not have made it if he could turn back time.

Despite the worrying images of Martinelli in a protective boot, Arsenal's club doctor, Gary O'Driscoll, indicated that the young forward could return to action sooner than expected. However, O'Driscoll strongly criticized Caicedo's challenge, describing it as "disgraceful."

Martinelli, who has been in exceptional form for Arsenal this season, has scored 15 goals and provided five assists in the Premier League alone. Caicedo had been a potential teammate for Martinelli at Arsenal, as the club made multiple unsuccessful bids to sign him from Brighton. Despite expressing a desire to leave the Amex Stadium, Caicedo ultimately signed a new contract with Brighton and has remained an integral part of their pursuit of a European qualification spot under manager Roberto De Zerbi. Currently, Brighton sits in sixth place in the Premier League, seven points behind Liverpool with two games in hand.

Meanwhile, Arsenal aims to regain momentum in the final weeks of the season. They have upcoming fixtures against Nottingham Forest and Wolves and will strive to keep their hopes of competing for the Premier League title alive for as long as possible.

Caicedo's response to the criticism demonstrates his recognition of the impact his tackle had on Martinelli and his willingness to acknowledge his mistake. As the season progresses, both Arsenal and Brighton will be looking to achieve their respective objectives, while Martinelli's recovery remains a focal point for Arsenal's medical team.
