Arsenal doctor gives Gabriel Martinelli injury update to fan after "disgraceful" tackle

Gabriel Martinelli, the Arsenal forward, sustained an injury during the team's home defeat to Brighton, dashing their hopes of winning the Premier League title. However, there is some positive news regarding his potential return before the end of the season, according to Arsenal's club doctor, Gary O'Driscoll. On the other hand, the injury status of Oleksandr Zinchenko is less optimistic.

During the match against Brighton, Martinelli was brought down by Moises Caicedo, forcing him to leave the field after just 20 minutes. Concerns arose that Martinelli's season could be prematurely cut short due to the injury. However, O'Driscoll's comments suggest that such fears may be unfounded. Despite the injury setback and the subsequent loss to Brighton, Arsenal's hopes for the league title fading, the positive update on Martinelli's condition may offer some consolation.

In response to a fan's inquiry outside the stadium, O'Driscoll described Martinelli as "sore" and criticized Caicedo's challenge as a "terrible foul" and "disgraceful." However, he reassured that the Brazilian forward should be okay, indicating that he could potentially make a comeback before the season concludes.

Regarding Zinchenko's injury, O'Driscoll expressed uncertainty, stating that he was "not sure" about the left-back's return. However, he emphasized that the team is determined to have all injured players back for the next game, including William Saliba, who has been absent since mid-March.

Arsenal voiced their discontent with Caicedo's challenge on Martinelli, which resulted in the young forward's inability to continue playing. Nonetheless, pundit Roy Keane defended the Ecuadorian, referring to him as a "good teammate" for retaliating after Martinelli's earlier challenge on Kaoru Mitoma. Keane acknowledged that Martinelli's tackle was tough and could have warranted disciplinary action, but highlighted the nature of the game, where players sometimes seek to even the score. He expressed hope that Martinelli's injury would not mark the end of his outstanding season.

The absence of Zinchenko in the match against Brighton was notable, as it was only the second league game he missed in 2023. O'Driscoll's uncertainty regarding his return suggests that his injury may require further assessment.

While Arsenal's defeat and Martinelli's injury were disappointing setbacks, the potential for Martinelli's return and the team's determination to recover injured players offer a glimmer of hope for the remaining matches.
