Chelsea Football Club has become a shadow of themselves this season, they have dropped to the mid-table fighting with the regular mid-table teams. What makes it indescribable is the fact that Chelsea will not play Champions league next season. According to rumors, former Tottenham Boss will be appointed to take charge of troubled Chelsea team. The question is, will Pochettino survive at Chelsea? can he help Chelsea rediscover their mojo? Has he chosen a wrong job? Here are the 3 reason why Pochettino chose the Chelsea Job.
1. Aged and Young Team
Chelsea has a mixture of an aged and young team, though with the exception of Tiago Silva who will be in his forties next season the rest of their senior players are getting a bit tired and some of them has dip form to play at that highest level for Chelsea. Players such as Sterling, Kante, Azpilicueta, Pulisic, Aubamanyeng, and few of them don't have that physicality to play like they used to.
This will not be an easy job for Pochettino because he needs to get rid of some of the above mentioned players. But the good news is Chelsea has talented young players who hasn't settled and clicked so well since they joined the Club. Others has not given the chance to showcase what they can do because of those aged senior players. Pochettino need to find out how he can get the young players who were signed last season to hit the ground as soon as possible to maintain his status and that is what he knows how to do best. He did it at Southampton and Tottenham.
2. Time and Patience
From time immemorial, Chelsea hierarchy has been no-nonsense employers, from Abramovich's tenure to the Boehly's. It will be interesting to see whether the Chelsea owners will give Pochettino the time needed to get the team going. Everyone knows that this Chelsea team can play good football but they need time and patient to jell. They have talent and has also sign good players who need a good and charismatic coach like Pochettino.
The owners couldn't be able to give Tuchel and Graham Potter the time and patience so what makes it extra ordinary to think that they will give Pochettino the time and patience to take this Chelsea team to the UCL and fight for trophies next season. What could help Pochettino is to make sure the team clicks because Pochettino sees opportunity at Chelsea since there is Jao Felix, Fernandez, Harvets, Chilwell, Bediashile, and etc. that he can make them become world class players just like he did for Tottenham and Southampton.
3. There will be Signings next season
Though there will not be any hefty signings next season but Chelsea still has the chance and the financial backing to sign any player on their radar. There has been a rumor about Pochettino wanting to bring Dybala to the club as well as some high profile players. Nkunku could also be available for Chelsea next season but they must sell some fringe players first before they can make any signings due to Financial Fair Play.
Provided Pochettino manage to sign players he needs to make his team at Chelsea, his job will go well but if he couldn't get the players he want to sign to make his team, then he is in big trouble that could lead to sacking. On the other hand, Chelsea has some of the youngest squad in the Premier League to fail next season.
