The flag bearer for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) will be chosen on December 15, 2023, in preparation for the general election of 2024.

According to the party's constitution, the flag bearer will be chosen a year before the general election while the party is in opposition.

Jerry Owusu Appauh, the party's general secretary, revealed this in a conversation with the Daily Graphic.

The LPG general secretary clarified that anybody interested in running for flag bearer must be a LPG member in good standing and meet the 1992 Constitution's requirements for a president.

Visibility

The Daily Graphic has discovered the campaign posters for the 2020 presidential candidate and party founder ahead of the party's presidential primary.

Kofi Akpaloo, the party's leader, was photographed in the middle of the Obasanjo Highway (Dzorwulu) in Accra as well as the street from Kasoa to Mallam.

The poster, according to Mr. Appauh, was created as part of the party's visibility campaign in preparation for its victory in the general election of 2024.

He said that, in addition to the posters, the party also had other branded materials meant to market it for political success in 2024. He claimed that Mr. Akpaloo continued to run the party until the presidential primary was held for a new candidate to be elected as the flag bearer of the party.

Reorganisation

Mr. Appauh said the party began its reorganization process last year, which resulted in the elections of the regional and constituency executives of the party across the nation in preparation for the elections in 2024.

Parliamentary

The general secretary announced that the deadline for submitting nominations for the party's parliamentary candidates was Monday, July 31, 2023.

The nomination forms, according to Mr. Appauh, are available in the office of the general secretary.

When asked why the party was not decentralizing the form purchase, Mr. Appauh said that it was to prevent form duplication.

He said that the form cost GHC 500 and that the filing fee for the party's parliamentary candidates was GHC 2,000.

Qualification

Mr. Appauh stated that in order to be eligible to run for office as a parliamentary candidate for the party, a person must first meet the conditions for members set down in the 1992 Constitution.

In addition, he said, the candidate must be a paid-up party member in good standing, not hold dual citizenship, and have allegiance to only Ghana.

For the general election in 2024, Mr. Appauh stated the party was committed to fielding parliamentary candidates in all 275 of the nation's seats.

He declared that the party was on track with its preparations for the general election of 2024 and urged Ghanaians to support the party in order for it to establish the country's next government in 2025 and carry out its human-centered, industrialization-focused, and solid economic policies.
