LUTON ISSUE 'LENGTHY' BAN TO SUPPORTER AFTER INCIDENT INVOLVING AMAD DIALLO AS POLICE INVESTIGATION

Luton Town has imposed a 'long term' ban on a fan after he was seen punching Manchester United prodigy Amad Diallo during their league semi-final against Sunderland, the club have announced. .



Amad spent the entire 2022/23 season on loan at Sunderland and was named in the starting XI in both play-offs against the third-placed team in the Championship.


Sunderland won the first leg 2-1, with the Ivorian scoring the equalizer for Tony Mowbray's side, meaning they entered the opposite game at Kenilworth Road with a slim advantage. .


But it was the Hatters who won both sets, beating the Black Cats 2-0 on Tuesday night thanks to first-half goals from Gabriel Osho and Tom Lockyer.

Amad could not make a difference for his team on the field despite his best efforts. After the match, a video surfaced on social media showing the winger being punched in the back by a home fan.

Supporters of the Luton family ban their hands

In a statement on its official website, Luton confirmed that a local fan will "immediately" receive a "renewal ban on the club" following the incident, which is currently subject to police investigation.


They wrote:

"The town of Luton is aware of an incident involving a home spectator and a Sunderland player during last night's Championship play-off semi-final at Kenilworth Road.



"An extended club ban will be issued immediately and the incident is also being investigated by the police. Advertisement


"Luton Town wants to make clear that such fan behavior is unacceptable and will take prompt and appropriate action to ensure that similar actions do not occur again.


"The club will not be making any comment at this time."
