It is still possible that Adrian San Miguel will sign a new contract with Liverpool, a report has revealed.

Adrian is expected to become a free agent at the end of the season when his contract expires. However, when Liverpool announced they would release James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer, Adrian's name was not mentioned.

And according to Football Insider, talks are underway for a deal that would allow Adrian to continue his career at Liverpool.

That is despite the veteran goalkeeper not appearing for the club since the Community Shield win over Manchester City in July. His last appearance in the Premier League was over two years ago, in February 2021.

Adrian has since been usurped by Caoimhin Kelleher as Liverpool's main goalkeeper, following first choice Alisson Becker.

However, Kelleher is expected to leave Liverpool this summer so that he can become a main goalkeeper for another club. It has been claimed that Tottenham could be his next man, but he is also attracting other interest.

Football Insider has suggested that Adrian could also turn down Liverpool's offer of an extension so he can see his career through more playing time in another destination, possibly at the level. lower. That said, it's still possible the 36-year-old could put pen to paper on another short-term deal so he can stay at Merseyside, supporting Klopp's favorite goalkeepers.

Liverpool are looking to add to the goalkeeper department

Even then, it's still possible that Liverpool will be on the market to replace Kelleher. The report mentions Hanover's Ron-Robert Zieler as a possible alternative.

Zieler is 34 years old, so he can also bring his own experience into goalkeeping.

However, the number 3 goalkeeper in Liverpool next season could still be Adrian. It will soon become clearer whether he will find a deal to continue at Liverpool.

Previously with Real Betis and West Ham, the Spaniard has represented Liverpool in 26 official matches since joining the club in 2019. In those matches, he has conceded a goal. 36 goals, in addition to keeping 7 clean sheets.

It will raise eyebrows if Liverpool reward Adrian with a new contract when they decide to let the likes of Firmino and Milner leave.

But in those cases, it will be more difficult to thwart outfield players who still feel they have a lot to offer on the pitch. For Adrian, it may have more to do with his off-field characteristics.

As a result, negotiations are ongoing over whether he will stay at Liverpool.
