Abbie Essel Writes: Dear Soulmate
Dear Soulmate,
Once upon a cold day,
We met in the middle of May.
We were strangers who were not even trying to be friends.
Things, many things, happened since then.
And now it feels as though we are just two individuals tying each other’s loose ends.
When my friends ask me, “what makes him so special?’’
I tell them,
“I won’t trade him for a dime,
This soulmate of mine”.
Dear Soulmate,
I want to walk barefooted on the beach.
I want to watch sunrises and sunsets, and listen to you jest.
I want to go to food festivals where I can laugh at the faces you make when you eat a peach.
I want to go to music festivals, wearing a beautiful dress.
Watch fireworks, with your arms wrapped around my chest.
I want to go to a homey diner and eat hot waffles drenched in maple syrup.
And listen to you while you tell me 'what's up'.
I want to have all the experiences, big and small, bright and blue.
I want it all and with you.
Dear Soulmate,
Let's meet again tonight, in my dreams. We need to finish the conversation we started.
Dear Soulmate,
I want to tell you a story.
Of all the things I want us to do.
I have all our plans in my little diary.
And with all my heart I wish they will come true.
Everyday I wish upon the stars and sky,
And a few times I cry.
Because I do not know what I will do if I ever lose you.
Sometimes, you are like a fairytale.
An unrealistic being that I thought of.
In my dreams your name is Kale,
like in the novel that I love.
Dear Soulmate,
I think forever might not be long enough,
And it breaks my heart that there might be a time when you are not here with me.
But your love makes me strong and tough.
And for now we,
have us.
