Ghanaian investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has stepped down from testifying in court against the former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi. This decision was made after an Accra High Court judge ordered Anas to remove his mask and show his face in court.

The case relates to a 2018 investigation conducted by Anas, which exposed Kwesi Nyantakyi's involvement in a bribery scandal. The undercover video showed Nyantakyi using the name of Ghana's President, Nana Akufo-Addo, to solicit bribes from potential investors.

Following the release of the video, the Ghana Football Association was dissolved, and Nyantakyi was banned from all football-related activities for life. He subsequently sued Anas for defamation, and the case has been ongoing since then.

However, a judge in the case recently ordered Anas to remove his mask and show his face in court, citing the need for Nyantakyi's lawyers to properly identify him. The judge's ruling has sparked controversy, with many arguing that it could put Anas' safety at risk, considering the nature of his work and the potential repercussions of exposing his identity.

In response to the ruling, Anas has reportedly decided to step down from the case, stating that he would not compromise his safety or that of his team. In a statement, he emphasized the importance of journalistic freedom and integrity in the fight against corruption and impunity.

"The work of investigative journalists is of utmost importance in exposing corruption and promoting accountability," Anas said. "However, we must also ensure that our safety and that of our team members is not compromised in the process. We remain committed to this fight, and we will continue to work towards ensuring a better future for our country."

The decision has been met with mixed reactions, with some supporting Anas' stance and others criticizing him for what they see as a lack of accountability and transparency. However, the case highlights the challenges faced by investigative journalists in Ghana and the need for greater protection and support for their work.

This latest development also raises questions about the future of the case and the potential impact on the fight against corruption in Ghana. Many are calling for Nyantakyi to be held accountable for his alleged actions, while others argue that the case should be thrown out due to the judge's order.
