Despite serving an eight-month suspension from the FA for betting offenses, Brentford is still hoping to sign Ivan Toney to a new contract, according to 90min.
Toney won't be allowed to play football or participate in football-related activities domestically or overseas until January 16 2024, and he won't be allowed to start training again until September 17 2023.
Ivan Toney has been suspended from all football-related activities for eight months, fined £50,000, and given a warning about his future behavior, according to a statement released by the FA on Wednesday.
The forward for Brentford FC was accused of breaking FA Rule E8 a total of 262 times between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. Later, the FA retracted 30 of these violations, and he acknowledged the remaining 232.
Following a personal hearing, a separate Regulatory Commission issued fines against him. For the final four months of his sentence, beginning on September 17, 2023, he is only allowed to practice with his team.
The independent Regulatory Commission's written justifications for these fines will be made public in due course, and The FA will hold off on making any further comments until it has had a chance to evaluate them.
The Bees have stated that they will make further decisions after the independent Regulatory Commission publishes its written reasons. However, sources have indicated that the club is'relieved' the ban is no longer in effect, while rival teams were taken aback by the 'leniency' of the decision.
Additionally, sources told 90min Toney has been informed by Brentford that he will not be sold during the summer or January transfer windows, and the club is optimistic he will sign a new contract at the Gtech Community Stadium. His current contract expires in 2025.
Viktor Gyokeres of Coventry City is a striker who Brentford is interested in, although they are still weighing their alternatives.
The Bees continue to be interested in the Sweden international. Even if the Sky Blues win the Championship Play-Off Final, he may still decide to quit the club because he only has one year left on his current contract and has previously rejected offers for a new one.
