Erling Haaland has broken almost every record it is possible to break in the Premier League during his first season with Manchester City. The striker joined last summer and, in 47 appearances for the Citizens, he has already scored a staggering 51 goals.
After smashing all possible records at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored almost a goal per game, Haaland has now arrived in Manchester as a star.
Haaland's father: Real Madrid weren't happy that we celebrated De Bruyne's goal
However, the fact is, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed, that the Norwegian could have arrived in the English city several years earlier.
The former Manchester United player and coach, who was Haaland's manager during his time at Molde, told United about the gem.
"I called United about six months before I took over and told them that I'd got this striker that we had, but they didn't listen," he said, as reported by The Sun.
"I asked for four million pounds for Haaland, but they didn't sign him."
Manchester United's big mistake with Haaland
It is true that the Norwegian striker's numbers at Molde were not on a par with the rest of his career, but the figure at which the transfer was valued was ridiculous given the level the City player has reached.
That decision could have been a historic mistake for a United side still looking to regain their old place in the Premier League as they watch their neighbours collect titles in recent years.
By the time the Norwegian embarked on his Bundesliga adventure, Solskjaer was already United's first-team coach and tried again to sign him, but with no luck.
Haaland had a roadmap that he has followed step by step to become the best striker in the world. While in one part of Manchester they are enjoying the Norwegian's goals, in the other they are still lamenting a bad decision.
