According to Fabrizio Romano of GIVEMESPORT, the deal of Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool is 'advanced' but not yet complete.

Although the players' side is in negotiations, Alexis Mac Allister is a top transfer target for Liverpool this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano, who spoke to GIVEMESPORT.

Although Romano previously believed that the relocation was finalized, there is still work to be done. Discussions are at a "advanced" stage.

Alexis Mac Allister's latest Liverpool news

Since Brighton is willing to sell its World Cup-winning central midfielder for the proper price, speculation has grown for a while that Mac Allister will move to Anfield in the summer.

The Argentine international may prefer a transfer to a team that plays Champions League football, according to the Mirror, who also claims Brighton are holding out for £70 million. With only two games left, Liverpool needs either Newcastle or Manchester United to substantially underperform for them to snag a top-four berth in the Premier League standings.

On the other hand, according to Goal, Mac Allister is 'bent' on a summer transfer to Liverpool. Although the player's contract doesn't expire until June 2025, Moises Caicedo, who recently signed a new contract with Brighton that lasts until 2027, is considered as the more likely target.

What has Romano said regarding Mac Allister and Liverpool?

"Mac Allister is one of the priority targets for Liverpool, but it's not something completed," Romano said to GIVEMESPORT. Let me be more specific because I've been feeling like Mac Allister joining Liverpool is a done deal for the past few weeks. Still not.

"Yes, the negotiations are far along on the side of the players, but they are not yet finished. I'll leave that open for the time being.

Is Mac Allister the central midfielder Liverpool needs to fix its issues?

For Brighton, Mac Allister excels in a range of midfield positions, including holding player in a double pivot, box-to-box center midfielder, and even classic number '10'. In that sense, he may serve as Liverpool's belated substitute for Georginio Wijnaldum: a high-caliber Swiss army knife that Klopp can use whenever he sees fit, depending on the situation.

Even if Mac Allister were only acquired to take Jordan Henderson's place in Liverpool's starting lineup for the upcoming season, that would be a big improvement.
