Last week, the Saints' promotion to the Championship was officially announced.

While Southampton finishes the Premier League season as a relegated team, Ruben Selles claims they still have pride to play for.

Since the Saints' relegation to the Championship was announced last week, neither this Sunday's trip to Brighton nor next week's decisive match against Liverpool have any significance.

The Spaniard, who is adamant that he wants to be the one to attempt to lead the Saints back into the top flight, insists that his team must still act professionally.

No matter what sport you play, the first thing is to play for yourself, train for yourself, and stay in shape for yourself before joining the team and joining a group of players that want to accomplish something, according to Selles.

"After being demoted, the first meeting was quite straightforward. It's nothing new, but since we aren't allowed to take anything off the table, those things become slightly more crucial because you have to play for yourself.

When you consider doing that and representing the club, consider the supporters who will come see us play Liverpool on Sunday.

The Saints' journey to the Amex will be challenging because their opponents are competing for European qualification.

Since Roberto De Zerbi was hired earlier this season, they have gotten better, and Selles claims that his Italian counterpart is breaking the mold.

"Brighton has had a really good season, first with Graham Potter and now with De Zerbi. They play attractive football and you can tell what they're doing in every game they play," he remarked.

They are doing incredibly well in the Premier League, and if that is the case, it means that a long-term development has taken place. Roberto is a fantastic coach, and you can tell every time his squad competes, so I admire him.

In the next two games, Ruben Selles says, Southampton still has honour to play for.
