The '60' ministers that Mahama says are not true - lawyers

Private lawyer, Kwame Adofo, said the statement by former National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer John Mahama that he will lead a government with only 60 ministers is absurd. .

His statement follows the statement made by flag bearerJohn Mahama during his acceptance speech after the NDC's landslide victory in the presidential and parliamentary elections. He speaks on Hello FM in Kumasi and is watchedby GhanaWeb.

According to lawyer Adofo, leading a government with less than 80 ministers will be a challenge for the former president. But again, the statement doesn't come as a show promise but a word of acceptance.

"Now
there are 86 ministers, 27 of them are ministers, 16 are regional ministers and 17 are other ministers, the sum of all this is 86. So, now, if you look carefully at the statement offormer President Mahama that he will lead a government with only 60 ministers. Out of the 60, when you remove the 16 that are automatic, the 27 ministers that remain automatic, when you do the removal, you will be left with only a few ministers. It will be interesting to see what happens because if you look at composition, when you are less than 80, you will have problems. Only 17 ministers will remain, all other agencies have not been included,” he said. The lawyer went on to say that former President Mahama could produce a reasonable person in his newspaper to carefully calculate the number of ministers they would want to lead their government if they were to won.

"So he
is right about what he said but let's wait for his diary. When we see it in the manifesto, then we can seriously considerit. This time, there was no show, only words of thanks. Maybe when they calculate, they will use the actual number because,as we say, even 60 is not reasonable. So let's give him the benefit of the doubt that the campaign has started now," he added. Background:

Mr.
Mahama in his acceptance speech following his victory in the NDC primaries at the University of Development Studies (UDS) on Monday, May 15, 2023, promised to lead a government with a small number of civil servants and elected officials. The weather is now. The administration is led by Addo.

“I promise to run an effective government of less than sixty (60) ministers. These ministers and other government officialswill not have the right to pay money after their term of office, because they will be involved in this commitmenteven before the necessary constitutional amendments, including the translation of Article 71 words," Mahamma said.
