Hearts defeated Aberdeen 2-1 at Tynecastle thanks to a second-half goal from Lawrence Shankland, increasing the pressure on their rivals in the tight Premiership third-place race.
The Dons came into Tynecastle with a five-point advantage over the Jambos, and when Mattie Pollock headed in the opening goal just after the half-hour mark, it appeared as though they would put an end to any chances of their hosts catching up to them.
However, a brilliant equalizer from Josh Ginnelly and Shankland's 27th goal of the year helped the Edinburgh team flip the game in their favor and cut the deficit to just two points with two games left in the race for automatic European group-stage participation next season.
James Hill and Andy Halliday, the fullbacks for Hearts, were replaced by Nathaniel Atkinson and Alex Cochrane, who were on the bench for the 2-2 draw at St Mirren.
Ryan Duncan, Hayden Coulson, and stalwart striker Luis Lopes were replaced by Jayden Richardson, Connor Barron, and Marley Watkins for the Aberdeen team that drew 0-0 at home against Hibernian.
After a rather quiet opening, the action picked up after the Dons' Jonny Hayes received a booking for a strong challenge on Yutaro Oda in the 11th minute.
Shankland, the captain of Hearts, had the game's first major opportunity in the 14th minute, but Kelle Roos stopped it from going in from just inside the box.
Two minutes later, after the Japanese attacker stole the ball from Hayes and made himself clear in the box, the Aberdeen goalkeeper had to maintain his composure to stop a strong angled shot from Oda.
The Dons' first chance came in the 17th minute when Watkins made a cut inside Kyle Rowles and saw Zander Clark stop a shot from the edge of the area.
Although the home team continued to appear more dangerous, Shankland missed from 12 yards after Aberdeen mishandled a corner into the box.
