ECG has started a non-profit project in the Volta and Oti regions

The Electricity Corporation of Ghana (ECG) has announced that its bankruptcy proceedings have commencedin all 11 operational zones inthe Volta and Oti regions.

This means that customers in Denu, Keta, Sogakope, Akatsi, Ho, Kpeve, Hohoe, Kpando, Jasikan, Nkwanta and Dambai will no longer have to pay for electricity in any of its businesses. Speaking to the media, the Acting General Manager of Volta Region, Eng.Michael Buabin, said that transactions such as paying bills and purchasing prepaid credit will be done through ECG PowerApp, where customers without a smartphone can access the system through * 226 #. He explained that ECG PowerApp has been updated to ensure that customers can invest in ECG anywhere and anytime using mobile phones.

"Customers
with smartphones can access the cashless system by downloading the ECG PowerApp from the Google Play Store or the App Store and follow the instructions to pay the prepaid bill or buy prepaid credit for the smart meter.Customers without smartphones can dial *226# to access the cashless system for all transactions,” he explained.

He said the introduction of the cashless system was part of efforts to digitize the company's operations to ensure efficient delivery of services to customers. "Our customers are always at the center of everything we do, because without them, we do not do business. Therefore, we will continue to improve our services to give them easy access and access our work.

"Prior
to the introduction of this system, customers had to travellong distances to interact with us, which caused them problems due to the cost of transportation and the risks involved."

"However,
with the introduction of this cashless system following the upgrade of PowerApp ECG, the problem oflong journeys is greatly reduced, as customers can sit in the comfort of their own homes and use ECG trade time." he said. Eng. Buabin explained that postpaid customers should add their account number whenlogging into the app, as the system requires a meter number from prepaid customers. However, headvised customers to be vigilant and ensure that their meter or account number entered into the system is correct before pressing the "THIS ORRECT"button on the app and before paying to ensure payment is made. debt and account balance. . .

He added, “Customers
who intend to pay their bill or buy aprepaid check can do so through the app by creating a check-in number and making the payment at any bank. ", he added. Eng. Buabin urgedcustomers who want to go to the ECG business center to pay their bills or buy a prepaid cardto pay their phone bills before they are allowed to access cashless services as the company does not accept cash. However, he stressed that third-party providers willcontinue to accept money for the purchase of electricity and revealed that the region is launching a strong campaign to educate consumers about theuse of electricity. This method has no cost and benefits.

"We have taken measures to ensure that our customers understand what is happening, know how to use the app and shortcodes, and the benefits of this process. We have created a jingle that airs on radio stations, promoted announcements and started radio education, town hall and group outreach to ensure that all our customers are well informed. Also, we have trained all our employees to help customers access the bankruptcy process every timethey visit our office,” he said. Heconcluded by assuring customers that the electricitycompany will continue to provide quality services and encouraged them to visit the nearest ECG office or contact ECG through 0302611611 for assistance .
