The Manchester United winger scored against Wolves last time out but didn't even score before being suspended against Bournemouth at the weekend.
Manchester United striker Anthony Martial looked unimpressed when his number was called in the 58th minute against Bournemouth on Saturday.
The France international shook his head in disbelief before heading straight down the tunnel to the dressing room when Wout Weghorst came on for him 10 minutes into the Vitality Stadium.
It is not clear if Martial is injured or Erik ten Hag made the decision for tactical reasons, but either way Martial will be disappointed as he is unable to make the most of his chances this weekend due to an offside error. taste. Marcus Rashford.
Martial has enjoyed a poor start to a campaign, hampered by injury, but seems to have turned the tide in recent weeks, having capped three times for the Red Devils this month.
He scored in United's 2-0 win over Wolves last time around but was substituted in the 69th minute against Weghorst.
Martial is in the starting lineup for the trip to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, leading the line with Antony and Jadon Sancho on either side. But in the 58th minute, Ten Hag once again decided he had had enough and replaced the striker with his reliable target.
Ten Hag praised the impact his substitution had on Wolves' game after the win.
“All substitutes have a good impact,” says Ten Hag. "And I think that was one of the issues last week that made subscribers so bad. It didn't have an impact. But today all the substitutes came in and [immediately] had an impact on the game."
That seems to have influenced his decision to resume Martial this weekend, but it is unlikely to have gone too smoothly for the Frenchman.
Martial has a contract with United until 2024 with the option of an extra year, but he could consider leaving this summer to be a regular starter in the first team.
The striker has been at Old Trafford since 2015 but has never been a mainstay in the first team at any point.
There's been plenty of competition for a spot in United's attack this season, with Rashford and Antony in charge of Ten Hag's new side.
Alejandro Garnacho has also knocked on the door in recent months.
