The Blacks of Ghana got off to a good start in the UFOA Zone B competition after defeatingBenin on Saturday, May 20.
Ghana played their first matchof the tournament at the Baba Yara Stadium where head coach Yusif Basigi fielded a star-studded team from Benin. TheHasaacas Ladies captain'sstarting line-up has not changed since the last friendly against Niger in midweek with Maafia Nyame, Faiza Seidu and Helen Alormenu leading the way while Stella Nyamekye drew the strings in the midfield.
The Dark Princesses took control from the start of the game and should take the lead from the first quarter of the game. However, they did not change their chances.

Maafia Nyame had other ideas after 35 minutes. He found himself on the end of Comfort Yeboah's cross before firing the ball into the net to put Ghana ahead.
Stella Nyame should have scored the second straight away but her effort from outside the box was blocked by the Benin defender with the score still to be scored as the break approached. The princesses went ahead in the game after the break and got a reward in the 61st minute when substitute Mary Amponsah crossed to Helen Alormenu to give Ghana two goals.
There was nothing to stopStella Nyamekye this time from a near miss from the penalty spot as she fired her effort straight into the goal to make it three and seal the victory for the visitors. With a three-goal lead, Ghana dominated the game and emerged from the Baba Yara Stadium with every three points to take the lead inGroup A.
Stella Nyamekye was the woman of the match in the opening round. The Blacks will face Ivory Coast in their next match next week.
