And club officials have drawn up a list of potential replacements.
According to the Daily Mail, midfielders Alexis Mac Allister, Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes have all emerged as top transfer targets.
However, Klopp has revealed that the club will be looking to strengthen on all pitches this summer. During a press conference on Friday, the 55-year-old said:
"We are looking at all departments except the goalkeeper at the moment.
"Yes, if there's a good (defender) there, I wouldn't deny it. That's it. We'll definitely look at all areas of the pitch."
Liverpool are also expected to appoint a new sporting director to oversee transfer activity.
Former goalkeeper Jorg Schmadtke has been strongly linked to the position, but club officials have yet to confirm his appointment. When asked about the possibility of Schmadtke coming, Klopp added:
"I can't talk about that.

"But if that happens, it won't be Jurgen Klopp's signing because we are both German or we both know each other. It will have nothing to do with it. I can say that. ."
"Jorg Schmadtke, I've known him for a very, very long time. He may not know me as long as I know him, because he is a much better player. But we started our second career at the same time, I became the coach at Mainz and he became the sporting director at Aachen.
"The two teams have similar status so from then on we knew each other a bit. I knew he was a good and intelligent person. He did very well in Germany, for sure, very successfully. "His personality is good, his personality is good, his sense of humor is good. I knew that in a few moments off the pitch.
"We could talk about (former Borussia Dortmund sporting director) Michael Zorc. Same age, same situation, just retired a little longer, I know him much better. There are sports directors. so good sports in Germany you won't believe it!"
Liverpool will host Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday afternoon. A win will help the Reds move Manchester United to fourth place.
