Thousands of people pay homage to the MP for Kumawu
Thousands of mourners from all walks of life flocked to Kumawu in the Ashanti region on Saturday to pay their respectsto MP, Philip Atta Basoah, who died after a brief illness in March this year.
The Deputy President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was among the government and parliamentarians who attendedthe funeral. In attendance were some New Patriotic Party (NPP) banner hopefuls; Allan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
All the Parliamentarycandidates representing various political parties in Kumawu paid tribute to the man they wishedto succeed in their final rites. Kumawu has been a touristattraction for a week andvisitors, especially politicians, have been invading the town ahead of the by-election scheduled for Tuesday May 23.
Figures such as President John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the national chairman, and Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the secretary generalof the NDC, have visited this week. The NPP is moving forward to retain the Kumawu seat, which it won in 2020 with more than 3,000 votes, knowing that the independent, Kwaku Duah, who supported the MP, is still in the speed. His regional chairman, Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, has been living in Kumawu since the MP's disappearance to ensure that nothing is left open to maintainthe ruling headquarters.
