Duffour Jnr's victory was not due to the 'sin' of his father -Yaw Boateng Gyan
National Democratic Congress (NDC) convener Yaw Boateng Gyan has denied allegationsthat Dr Kwabena Duffuor Jnr lost because of his father's sin.
Dr Kwabena Duffour Jnr was defeated in the primaries by the popular Hajia Afrah Nasira in a hotly contested election in Sekyere Afram Plains constituency. The former finance minister's son lost ninevotes on the day.
Some say that Dr Kwabena Dufuor Jnr would have won the election in Sekyere Afram Plains but for his father's game beforethe party primaries held on May 13, 2023. But speaking on OKAY FM in Accra in an interview, Yaw Boateng Gyan said he never won the electionbecause people wanted to punish his father.
On the contrary, he lost because his uncle who was supported by his father decided not to reflect on his family and called him to come down for a new face to represent the Democratic National Congress in the region. "Duffour supported his brother and made sure that he got all the best in his studies and life. The majority of the vote has fallenin the electoral region and he was called to step down so that someone else can take over the government, but he did notagree. The girl who won is also a member of an NGO in the constituency and she used her opportunity to make herself known and get votes at Kwabena's expense and herfather refused to resign in her place," he said.
"Not because of his father. I hear people asking him to go on his own, but that shouldn't be the case. Kwabena is only 40 years old and gaining independence will not help his political career,” he said.
