Israel's economic and commercial mission activity in Ghana, according to Shlomit Sufa, Israel's ambassador to Ghana, has resulted in a record $140 million worth of business transactions and investment among their private sector enterprises.
She said that these partnerships have improved Israel's relations with Ghana and given Israeli enterprises access to new markets and commercial prospects.
"The Economic and Trade Mission has been operating in Ghana for five years, and it is the sole Israeli Trade Mission in West Africa. Over 100 events, including business-to-business meetings, incoming delegations, exhibits, and seminars, have been held in the past five years, according to Ms. Sufa, who is also in charge of Liberia and Sierra Leone.
She said that the mission has aided and collaborated with more than 450 Israeli businesses and more than 2,000 Ghanaian businesses and organizations, as well as conducted more than 2,000 business meetings between businesses from the two nations.
At an event to commemorate the State of Israel's 75th anniversary of its independence, Ms. Sufa revealed these in Accra on Wednesday.
Israel's sovereignty
On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was established, fulfilling the Jewish people's 2,000-year-old desire to return to their ancient homeland.
Israel has since developed and prospered into a thriving democracy, a center of invention and technology, and a loving home for Jews from all over the world.
In a number of fields, including agritech, watertech, cybertech, fintech, med-tech, and renewable energy, Israel is recognized as a pioneer.
"75 years of creating a climate of innovation" is the theme for the celebration.
Involvement with Ghana
When Ghana became one of the first African nations to establish diplomatic ties with Israel in 1958, Ms. Sufa stated that it was necessary to reflect on Israel's history as it reached this significant milestone.
She claimed that ever since, the two countries have maintained a cordial relationship built on mutual respect, teamwork, and a shared spirituality among believers.
"Ghana has become an important partner for Israel because of its stable democracy, expanding economy, amiable population, and close affinity with the Jewish state.
With their wide geographical and cultural contrasts, Israel and Ghana may appear to be an improbable match, but our common values, interests, and affinity between our peoples have helped us come together in many ways, according to the speaker.
She said that Israel had mostly worked with Ghana in the areas of agriculture, fintech, education, innovation, health, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and women's empowerment.
The ambassador also discussed important goals that the Ghanaian government and Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV) have worked together to achieve. She named these goals as lowering newborn and maternal mortality, improving water and sanitation, and promoting early childhood education.
