A man was arrested at Kumawu MP's funeral for collecting money
The thief was caught after some supporters raised an alarm
An unnamed 40-year-old man was arrested at the funeral of the late Philip Basoah, the Member of Parliament for Kumawu Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
The man arrested by police said he stole about three cell phones from mourners at the funeral. According to the newspaper,the unsuspecting man was a very pleasant person dressed in a funeral suit as if he was one of the interested parties.
Further investigation revealed that the police seized the bagafter some people found out what it was. “I was here when I found out that my phone was stolen and I reported the incident to the police. I waited for the man, so I called the police. We were surprised thatthe man dropped his bag after being called by the police. We looked inside the bag to find that he had hidden about three cell phones in the bag, including mine. My phone is itel. The police later arrested the thief,” avictim told GhanaWeb.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness toldGhanaWeb that the incident happened when they joined thequeue to pay their respects to the late MP. "While we were in line, my other sister complained that someone took out herphone from her pocket. So Ithreatened to curse the person with 'antoa nyamaa' until the police intervened. to catch a thief," he said.
