Derek McInnes, the manager of Kilmarnock, has asked his players to assume responsibility ahead of a pivotal week in their fight to stay in the league.

Killie lost to St Johnstone 1-0 at home on Saturday, and McInnes was upset with his team's goal from a set-piece, which Saints captain Liam Gordon headed in after 11 minutes.

The Rugby Park team is now 10th in the Scottish Premiership going into their final two league games, one point ahead of Ross County and three ahead of last-place Dundee United.

Their final two contests will take place at home against County and at Tannadice, where they will first play United on Wednesday.

To get outcomes, McInnes stated, "you need discipline, calmness, composure at the appropriate times, and you need to keep that sense of what is in front of you."

"There is also a sense of responsibility, and set plays are the best examples of responsibility."We need to go to Tannadice because we defeated them there in the cup and they defeated us there in the league, so we can perform there.A victory there would benefit everyone much; in order to attempt to complete the task, we require strong performances and a great deal of accountability.

We currently have the tenth position, and considerable work must be done to keep it.

"We obviously have a lot of work to do, but we want to make sure that when we come here to play Ross County on Sunday, we are coming off of a win and that everything is still up for grabs."

McInnes acknowledges that the defeats suffered by Dundee United and Ross County on Saturday served as a small comfort for them following their loss to St Johnstone.

This indicates that Kilmarnock's future is still in their own hands, and the Killie manager has set his sights on triumphing in a three-way struggle for survival.

Even when I addressed the players, "I purposefully didn't know the scores for the other teams," he said.
