The former Liverpool manager had a difficult time at Anfield and was even accused of selling the wrong player to Fulham during the Reds' reign.

Roy Hodgson's shares are particularly high at the moment due to the way he turned things around at Crystal Palace after replacing the sacked Patrick Vieira.

Things weren't always so bright for Hodgson, however. Back in charge of Premier League giants Liverpool, the experienced manager allegedly sold the wrong player according to Alex Kacaniklic, who claim Hodgson sent him to Fulham to sign Paul Konchesky.

Hodgson signed for Konchesky early in the Reds' reign and has been a huge fan of the full-back since the time they shared time at Craven Cottage and with him reached the 2010 Europa League final as part. of the deal to bring the defender to Anfield, Hodgson agreed to part ways with two young talents Lauri Dalla Valle and Kacaniklic. The latter received acclaim early on in his playing career but failed to reach his full potential in south-west London.

Four years ago, Kacaniklic discussed Hodgson's transfer and false claims on the Lundh sports podcast.

“It was a bit difficult for Liverpool to replace me,” explained the former Sweden international. "While I was in Fulham and before checking in, I was on the phone with Roy Hodgson, where we found out he had mistakenly changed Alex.

"In his head he thought he'd traded another Alex for Konchesky. But then it was too late. So funny.

"Then he just told me I was welcome in Liverpool with open arms, but I had to do what I felt. I didn't [come back]. Then I changed my mind. and I'm excited about coming to Fulham.”

Kacaniklic was on loan several times while at Fulham, although few have inspired a change in form. A temporary move to Watford was followed by another loan spell at Burnley, before signing on a season-long loan deal with Danish side Copenhagen, but making just seven appearances throughout the campaign.

Hodgson's time at Anfield is not particularly remembered by Liverpool fans, but he also seems to have his own grudge against those above him in the Reds' hierarchy.

At the time of his dismissal, Hodgson admitted that he had some frustrations by stating:

"Any manager would be honored to lead a club with such an incredible history, strong tradition and incredible fan base. However, I have found the past few months to be approx. the most difficult time in his career.

“I am sad that I was not able to make my mark on the team, that I had time to bring in new players to the club this transfer window and that I was able to be part of the team. ball. rebuilding."
