On Sunday, Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 to mark their most recent Premier League championship success.

After Arsenal's defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Pep Guardiola's treble-chasing team was already crowned champions for the fifth time in six years.

As a result, the Blues' visit to the Etihad Stadium coincided with a festive atmosphere, and an early goal from Julian Alvarez gave the crowd additional reason to shout.

Chelsea had a few promising moments, but City, even though they never quite reached the level of ferocity they displayed in their midweek demolition of Real Madrid, always felt in charge.

The 'Poznan' was frequently spotted by fans who had come to celebrate in the sunshine.

When City entered the field, their opponents gave them a guard of honor. Then, the Londoners appeared to be in for a long afternoon, which may have been embarrassing for a Chelsea team that aspires to the heights City have attained.

After 12 minutes, City took control of the ball in midfield and Cole Palmer found Alvarez in front of goal. It felt like only a matter of time until the game's first goal would be scored, and it did so.

After taking a touch, the World Cup champion from Argentina blasted a shot across Kepa Arrizabalaga with conviction.

Under interim manager Frank Lampard, Chelsea had a demoralizing finish to the season and once again appeared far behind the pace.

Raheem Sterling, a former City forward, made an effort to wake them up. The England international twice got past the City defense, but both times he was unable to find a teammate. Stefan Ortega then blocked one of his shots.

Then, Conor Gallagher came even closer when he headed Lewis Hall's cross against the post.

However, City always appeared to be in control; Phil Foden's attempted chip was just barely off-target, while Kalvin Phillips, finally making his first league start for the champions, blasted wide.
