Mr. Kwaku Duah, who was previously known for contesting 2020 as an independent, revealed that his decision to run for office in these two elections is becausethe voters know and trust his skills. "I am presenting myselfas a strong man with a strong foundation because I was made by the voters. They know what I can do and there is no chance that I will disappoint them. I was here during the 2020 election when they came to see me as an independent because of the disillusionment that successivegovernments have brought to this region. I decided not to go, but after thinking about it, I realized that I would be disappointed if I didn't do their bidding.
"At first people thought it was a joke until they realized my vote was big. Now everyone who did not vote for me in the 2020 election invited me to come when I realized that I am not in the running for the game,” he said.
In his speech in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, Mr. Kwaku Duah said that many efforts by some leaders of the New Patriotic Party to makehim change his decision werefutile because of his goodwill and love for his people. . Responding to Kwaku Duah'snew appearance on the ballot,Mr. Kwaku Duah said he saw this as one of the manyattempts to undermine him, but he did not condone it.
According to him, Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka PresidentWontumi who is the regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party, deliberately brought innew Kwaku Duah who is his relative so that he can destroy his vote. "I know it's Wontumi's work, but I'm not upset at all. Wontumi brought him into this competition, but what I'm upset about is that the person in question is my relative. He is my cousin. Just yesterday, a member of my family met him and it was through their relationship that he was my cousin. His mother is my sister, we are all from Yaadwaase,” he said.
According to him, the new Kwaku Duah who expressed his concern and regret over his decision to challenge his uncle asked his family member to tell him (Old Kwaku Duah) that when he wins, he should consider because it is even unemployment in Tema. . The62-year-old businessman, who is also a nurse by profession and a farmer, revealed that his nephew's decision to challengehim will not cause a split in the family. According to him, he is confident that he will win the election despite all the disappointing efforts. "We are a family and we will be forever, there is no way this can cause any separation between us. They went and got it, yes they got it but it's not something that can destroy my vote, no way,"he said.
He, however, made it clear that his only concern as the first independent candidate was how the NPP leaders made every effort to make him and the new candidate appear similar and vote.
“He wears Kente and I'm not worried about that because I didn't buy it for him. Kwaku Duah is also his name, there is no way to change it. But choosing a "bird" sign like mine is something I will complain about. Therefore, I went to the National Electoral Commission and they have changed the symbol to my nephew. I am now number three in the polls, so I am asking my people to vote." When asked if he would announce a position for a political party after winning, he replied that he would never do this to disappoint those who trusted him.
“My entry into Parliament is not a question of party colour,but Ghana first. When there is a resolution on the floor of parliament, I will consider how it will benefit my people inGhana. There is no way I can defend the color of the party. The time has come for us to wait for Ghana to first revivethe lost love," he said.
Kwaku Duah, who is very confident that he will win on Tuesday, urged the election officials and security agencies to ensure that the election isfair. Stating what he has done as an individual in terms of infrastructure, education, etc.,Mr. Kwaku Duah promised to do more to make Kumawu areavery beautiful.
“One of my goals is to make Kumawu a tourist destinationlike Kwahu, where people will go for Christmas celebrations.There are no higher education institutions like training colleges, nursing schools, universities etc. and Kumawu. We do not deserve this at all. I will make it happen.
