Ghanaian striker Kevin-Prince Boateng was emotional after his childhood club Hertha Berlin were relegated from the Bundesliga.
The 36-year-old, who announced he would retire at the end of the season, started when the capital side were held to a draw at home by VfL Bochum, leading to his relegation to the second division.
Emotional Boateng stayed for hours after the game as he pondered his final Bundesliga campaign.
"I couldn't realize it yet," Boateng said after the game. "It's bittersweet, I love this club. Came here knowing it wouldn't be pink. Fans are angry, frustrated and upset, it's completely normal.
"I can understand them, I'm a Hertha fan myself."
The 36-year-old will play his last game for the club in the final game of the season against Wolfsburg next week.
