A visibly shaken Carlo Ancelotti struck a serious and furious pose in the Mestalla press room after defeat to Valencia.

The Real Madrid coach spoke about the racist insults to Vinicius Junior.

"I talked to him during the game because the atmosphere was very heated and very bad, I asked him if he wanted to continue," he explained.

"I didn't want to remove him because the atmosphere is racist.

"It has never happened to me. Not like that. It is unacceptable and LaLiga has a problem that is not Vinicius. He is the victim.

"What should be done? You can't play soccer like that. I would say the same if we had won. It's too serious.

"They insult Vinicius all the time and then they give him a red card.

"I am very sad. It's a league with great teams, but we have to get rid of this. We are in 2023.

"The only way is to stop the match, it is true that there is a protocol, but we have to go home."

Complaints about refereeing

Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea also came in for criticism from the coach.

"You complain and look what happened. Nothing at all. The solution is to stop the match," he insisted.

"This cannot continue. He is the player who receives the most fouls and the most insults.

"I told the referee that I was going to take him off and he told me that he had to continue.

"With the red card the whole stadium was shouting Monkey, monkey, monkey.

"I am very sad. He is a kid and he wanted to continue, but in these conditions it is very complicated."

On the red card

Vinicius was sent off for aggressive behavior in a clash with several Valencia players.

"The VAR guy made up an aggression," Ancelotti claimed.

"He only tried to free himself. The player is sad because all he wants to do is play soccer.

"He wasn't angry. He was sad.

"For me, we should have stopped the game.

"It wasn't one person gone mad, it was a stadium gone mad.

"I've never seen a whole stadium making a racist insult."

How Vinicius feels

The coach did also admit that Vinicius could learn and improve, while insisting that more needs to be done to protect him.

"Of course, like all young people, he has to improve," he recognized.

"But when a stadium insults you, young people are not able to stay cool.

"The teammates and the club support him in everything."
