Antibiotics do not kill malaria -Dr Hanson
Dr Dorothy Hanson, a doctor at the International Maritime Hospital (IMaH) in Tema, said that taking herbal medicinedoes not kill the malaria virusbut only treats the symptoms.
He said: "No matter how much herbal concoction the patients consume, it will not remove the bacteria from their system," and most of those who rely on herbal medicine are often hospitalized. for treatment. This is because the virus remains in their body even after they think they have done the treatment.
Speaking at the Ghana News Agency health communicationsplatform in Tema, Dr Hanson said some types of bacteria, especially plasmodium, can stayin the body for years without causing disease. "Sometimes Plasmodium remains in the liver of the malaria transmission system for several years without causing disease ... but if it is not treated, it can re-emerge and cause relapses inyears or months and how many."
Explaining the process of transmission, he said: 'When an infected female Anophelesmosquito bites a human, they inject the parasites into the blood, and travel to the liver, where they four and mature, later they leave and producered blood cells. , causing fever-like symptoms.
He therefore urged the public to seek appropriate treatment for malaria to avoid recurrence, which can be serious and lead to health problems including kidney failure, liver problems, anemia, weakness in babies and miscarriage.
Dr Hanson also encouraged people to get tested for bacteria before starting any treatment, as other infections can have the same symptoms. Francis Ameyibor, the Tema Regional Director of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, toldthe media outlet, titled: “Your health! Our Collective Service,”is an active social media channel for health professionals to share public health information.
Health issues are not negotiable, he said, and called for all efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle. “You must be the first to protect your health; let us be aware of things that can put our lives, our jobs and those around us at risk,” he said.
