The following are Mathematics questions and answers for BECE Candidates in order to prepare them for their final examination. BECE Candidates should make sure to prepare adequately for the impending final examination so as to to succeed.
1. The perimeter of a square is 160m. Calculate the length of the square.
Explanation
Given this question, the perimeter has been given to be 160m. The length of the square is unknown which needs to be found.
First, note down the formular for finding the perimeter of a square and substitute 160m at the side of the perimeter and solve for the length. The calculated figure now becomes the length of the square given in metres (m).
Solution
P=4l but P= 160m
So, 160m =4l
Divide each side by 4
160/4 = 4l/4
160/4= l
40= l
Therefore, the length of the square is 40m.
2. Joseph paid Gh¢ 20.00 for 8 dish plates. Three of the plates got destroyed. What is the cost price of each dish plate Joseph paid for?
Solution
Let a particular variable represent the cost of each plate bought by Joseph.
If 8 plates = GH¢ 20.00
Then, 1 plate =x
8/1 × 20/x
Cross multiply
8(x) = 1(20)
8y=20
Divide each side by 8 and solve for x
x=20/8
x=2.5
Therefore, the cost price of each dish plate bought by Joseph is given by GH¢2.50.
3. A rectangle has a perimeter of 80mm. The width of this rectangle is 5mm. Calculate the length of the rectangle.
Solution
Perimeter =80mm and the Width =5mm
The length, L= ?
Substitute the value of the perimeter and the width into the formular; P=2L+2w
80=2(L)+2(5)
80=2L+10
80-10=2L
70=2L
Divide each of the sides by 2 and solve for the length.
70÷2=2L/2
70÷2=L
35=L
L=35mm
Therefore, the length of the rectangular figure is equal to 35mm.
4. In a rectangle with various dimensions of the figure ABCD, the distance given from A to B is 25cm, the distance from B to C is given by 15cm, the distance from C to D is given by 25cm and that of the distance from A to D is 15cm. Calculate the perimeter of the given rectangle.
Explanation
First consider the formular for finding the perimeter of rectangle which is; P=2L+2w but given AB=25cm, BC=15cm, CD=25cm and AD=15cm, the perimeter is of the rectangle is worked out by summing up the the distances given in the question.
Solution
P=25cm+15cm+25cm+15cm
P=80cm
OR
P= 2L+2w
Substitute the value of L and W
P=2(25)+2(15)
P=50+30
P=80cm
Each of the above provided solutions given is correct. Therefore, the perimeter of the rectangle is given by 80cm.
5. A triangle which is equilateral has one of its sides being 50cm. Calculate the perimeter of the triangle.
Explanation
An equilateral triangle is a type of triangle which has all its sides being the same. Therefore, if one side is 50cm, the other sides are also given by 50cm each. Perimeter of the triangle is calculated by adding the length of its sides together.
It should be noted that, a triangle has 3 sides.
Solution
Perimeter, P=50cm+50cm+50cm
P=150cm
Therefore, the perimeter of the equilateral triangle is 150cm.
I hope that these Mathematics questions with their answers has become useful for BECE Candidates to adequately prepare for their various mocks and final examination.
